Ontario Energy Board Community Meetings - Toronto Hydro

The following message is from the Ontario Energy Board.

My name is Andrew and I work for the Ontario Energy Board (OEB).

As you may be aware, the Ontario Energy Board regulates Ontario’s energy sector, and our responsibilities include setting distribution rates for local utilities.

Toronto Hydro has applied to the OEB to change its distribution rates effective January 1, 2020. As part of our review of this application, we want to hear from their customers and ensure that they have an opportunity to have their say. Towards that end, we are holding a series of community meetings throughout the city, beginning November 22. Five of the six meetings will be in-person as well as livestreamed. The sixth will be a webinar. Dates, times and locations follow below, and each event linked for easy registration on Eventbrite.

We hold community meetings so that consumers can have an opportunity to:

  • speak with utility representatives directly and ask why they want the change they’re proposing
  • ask us questions about our process and find out how to get involved
  • give us their comments about the application, verbally or in writing, which we give to the decision-makers to consider as part of the hearings process

Consumers are also welcome to make a presentation if they like. We keep notes about the questions and comments made at the meeting. We also file a report so the decision-makers at the Ontario Energy Board are aware of all the concerns that utility customers raise about an application – the very people who may be affected by the changes their utility is requesting.

This short whiteboard video explains what happens at a typical OEB meeting.

I really appreciate your interest and that you’ll help get the message out, especially via your social media channels – it’s a great help in getting people involved in the rate review process.

Toronto Hydro customers will receive a copy of the attached meeting notice in their bill. Please feel free to share and/or post. The meeting registration page also makes sharing via social media quick and easy.

Registration is not required, but appreciated.

Toronto Hydro has applied to change its electricity distribution rates.

Attend one of six OEB community meetings being held for Toronto Hydro customers. Learn more about their application, how to get involved in the OEB’s rate review process, and provide your comments to the OEB about Toronto Hydro’s rate application.
