At Origin is a specialty coffee supplier, providing single origin, un-blended coffee beans from Africa through direct fair trade. “Specialty coffee” was first used in 1974 by Erna Knutsen in an issue of Tea & Coffee Trade Journal. Knutsen used this term to describe beans of the best flavor which are produced in special microclimates. Furthermore, coffee beans should have scores 80 points or above on a 100 point scale according to the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) to be “specialty”. The unique flavors and tastes are a result of the special characteristics and composition of the soils in which they are produced. But according to At Origin, this definition is not just enough. Coffee Beans need to be fair trade certified, organic and single origin. Needs to be stored properly, be roasted very carefully and brewed with patience.
High altitude single origin African coffee beans are known for their quality. Because of getting green beans from farms to roasteries, is a mission, worldwide African coffee beans are not served often. Some of the beans that At Origin serve have very little market shares in the world such as 0,25% (Rwanda) , 0,35% ( Burundi ) , 0,40% ( D.R Congo ) , 0,6% (Tanzania ) , 0.5% (Kenya )
